We’re at the Thinking Creatively Conference at Kean University listening to John Kamen and James Spindler talk about some of the work
from @radical.media
The last case study was thejohnnycashproject.com, a truely innovative crowd-sourced music video for Johnny Cash. The music video is created online by hundreds of people drawing over individual still frames.

Ran into this today when I logged into my google docs to update a spreadsheet. Not bad for V1 I have to admit and Pinaki will have to see if it can replace Omnigraffle, but I doubt it :) I logged in and made a quick workflow diagram to test it out, tell me what you think:

“About Google drawings
With Google Docs drawings you can easily create, share, and edit drawings online. Here are a few specific things you can do:
- Edit drawings online in real time with anyone you choose, and invite others to view your edits in real time.
- Chat with others who are editing your drawing, from within the drawings editor.
- Publish drawings online to the world as images, or download them in standard formats.
- Insert text, shapes, arrows, scribbles, and images from your hard drive or from the Web.
- Lay out drawings precisely with alignment guides, snap to grid, and auto distribution.
- Insert drawings into other Google documents, spreadsheets, or presentations using the web clipboard, then tweak them inline.”

A client of ours shared this link with us that shows us the google services that are live in China and their current status as they do business in China. This is very interesting. The original link is here
“This page offers a summary of accessibility to Google services from within mainland China. The status is assessed by geographically diverse servers that are used to monitor connection capability. Note that service status in China has a fluctuating nature. This assessment may not reflect small-scale blocking that frequently occurs or individual experiences with issues such as keyword blocking that may affect access to services temporarily.
This dashboard receives updates at least once a day, generally in the evening Pacific Time. Unless otherwise noted, this status information applies both to consumer services and to services for organizations using Google without advanced network configurations.”

Today, at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters, Mr. Jobs introduced Apple’s iPhone new OS 4.0 to media members and other fortunate guests. And well it looks this update is another doozy.
If you recall, in the not-so-distant past the OS 3.0 update gave us: Cut, Copy & Paste, a Landscape Keyboard, MMS, Spotlight Search and some other updates and features. The 4.0 update looks to up the ante quite a bit. Along with enabling multitasking and background processing there are a number of user experience updates that will certainly add to the many reasons why the iPhone is really and truly a smart phone.

This article is 3 years old, but I think it really nails the reason Apple has the following it does. The lack of choice theory makes sense once you think about it. Why do you think Apple customers are so loyal?
“Pundits often refer to them as “zealots” or “fanboys.” The more polite references include “Mac loyalists.” I am, of course, talking about Apple’s (AAPL) more vocal customers, those who will defend the company and its products in any debate going on around them. What is it that drives their passion for most things Apple? Is it a deluded mind, warped by the Reality Distortion Field that Steve Jobs so successfully wraps every new product in? In short, the answer is no.
The truth behind the scenes is not that Apple has a large group of customers that are too dedicated and passionate about their products, or the company as a whole. The reality is far more simple and obvious: Apple simply has a large group of very satisfied customers — and that’s the secret ingredient left out of nearly every analysis or op-ed piece that mentions these “zealots.” ”

No, not LW, come on!!!
I’m posting this entry due to 1 particular company on this list which I will be so happy to see go:

That’s right the original “Buster” as Derrick would say is on the brink of death :) You may say “Awesome” or even “can’t wait” and if you are one of those people, I will high five you next time I see you. Now if you say “damn”, or “too bad” I would tell you to go check out Netflix or Redbox both of which provide much better pricing with no late fees and less people to deal with in every transaction (yes I’m a fan of going places and dealing with machines rather than people who are incompetent or with nasty attitudes due to the the job they have). I will not miss paying too much for a movie rental, nor the late fees associated with them, so to Blockbuster I say RIP.
“The former king of video rentals is on life support. Blockbuster’s shares are trading under 30 cents per share and the firm is saddled with debt. Blockbuster has over $963 million in debt. The company’s biggest problem is that its business model no longer works. Blockbuster rose to prominence by renting videos and DVDs to customers from its traditional brick and mortar stores.
However, Netflix has become the new king of movie rentals with its DVD by mail strategy. To make matters worse, Redbox is quickly gaining market share with its $1 DVD rentals from kiosks set up at grocers, fast food chains and convenience stores. Blockbuster is trying to change its business by adopting a DVD rental kiosk model and offering mobile movies via smartphone. But unless Blockbuster can rid itself of its onerous debt burden, these changes may be too little, too late.”
