Wheat Thins Twitter Commercial

I was watching The Next Food Network Star last night and saw this commercial for Wheat Thins. I’m generally not a fan of commercials – I find them annoying especially when I’m waiting to hear if Brad’s decadent lamb chops were enough to keep him safe after his horrendous speech to the foodie group. Anyway – the folks at Wheat Thins created a GREAT commercial. True or not (I’m hearing reports it’s not entirely true) the commercial speaks to the power of social media, in this case: Twitter. Wheat Thins aficionado, Tabitha Hancock, (@fox_girl313) posted , “AAAHHH Im outta wheat thins… Mi life is officially over,”- and Wheat Thins brought an entire giant palette of wheat thins to her house. You see Tabitha open the door to this huge palette sitting on her driveway with the delivery man telling her she’ll never have to worry about running out of Wheat Thins ever again.

My boyfriend and I just looked at each other in shock debating for the next 10 minutes about whether that was an actual true story or not. My claim: true. His? Not so much…

It seems Tabitha actually posted that claim on FB and not Twitter, the company reached out to her aunt, etc. etc. White lie or not, this commercial was definitely a success from a marketing/PR standpoint.  And let’s see…it’s making me think about tweeting how I’m out of Edy’s Girl Scout’s Somoas Ice Cream. Too bad I don’t have a freezer for an entire palette of that stuff!

That makes much more sense that it’s basically true that she is an unsuspecting “fan” of Wheat Thins and not a paid actor because her reaction is just too genuine and she looks just too normal. I was wondering how someone could figure out her address just from a Tweet, so it also makes sense that she posted her comment on Facebook and then a relative was contacted in order to find Tabitha’s address.
