Interesting behind the scenes on keeping things feature rich while keeping the UI within their own brand guidelines as well as the mobile OS’s design guides.
In essence the iPlayer Apps contain the same features and content, but of course Android users, for example, have a different expectation of how to navigate from iOS users. Gestural interactions are a good example of differences between the user interfaces.
Gestures: get me there quick!
Network and Wifi connectivity is obviously a major concern when it comes to using apps. To reduce the number of journeys and page loads we looked at implementing gestures that would let the audience trigger actions more quickly.
An earlier idea we had for revealing additional functionality without having to go through to an episode page. A ‘long press’ on a programme would reveal the icons.
With a wealth of potential flicks, taps, and drags to choose from we have kept things simple. To reveal the favourites star on the app, you simply swipe on a programme item in a portrait list.
Swipe and tap the star to favourite a programme
And to play a programme immediately and by-pass the epsiode page, you can simple double tap on any programme item in a vertical list.
Found this today, and I have to say it looks awesome! I’m going to be signing up for a course in the very near future, I’ll let you know how it goes. People sharing what they know instead of hoarding information for Job Security (you know who you are), nice!
Skillshare is a community marketplace to learn anything from anyone. We believe that everyone has valuable skills and knowledge to teach and the curiosity to keep learning new things. This means our neighborhoods, communities, and cities are really the world’s greatest universities. Our platform helps make the exchange of knowledge easy, enriching, and fun.
All of the classes happen in the real world. That means offline despite what we nerds may consider to be “real.” We believe that learning should happen in groups around shared interests and passions. When you bring together a variety of voices and hands-on instruction, truly spectacular things happen. This magic just can’t be replicated over a webcam and chatroom. We’re here to spread this magic and increase the gross happiness index around the world.
Found this on yahoo news. With the use of a Microsoft Kinect, some Grad students figured out how to project onto any surface and make that surface an input device, pretty impressive:
Thunder Cats is back baby! Found Thundercats as a trending topic off yahoo and it looks like it’s back on Cartoon Network. It’s look pretty good from what I’m seeing in this trailer:
Researchers from from the Grenoble Informatics Lab in France are using the camera to track your eye gaze and change the image displayed on the tablet based on your perspective.
Love that they have all the user’s in their regular work clothes, plus one guy takes a call while playing the game. Just plain clever! Like it says, there’s a soldier in all of us! Even Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel get into the game
Have to admit, seeing this technology focused commercials gives me the goose bumps. Saw this today on Hulu, we fortunate enough to find on youtube, tell me what you think?
