In an effort to showcase our technological savvy and creative ingenuity, Local Wisdom instituted its own R&D group. The first product born from their collective genius and unrelenting inventiveness is Weatherwise, an app for iPhone and Android touting weather with personality. Users receive the current weather and five day forecast through animated landscapes and personas sans clip art and common weather icons.
App Features
Geolocation identifies your current city and state giving you the local weather forecast up to five days ahead. Add and save up to 10 different locations for easy access to the forecast of areas you visit most. One-touch access gives you the hourly breakdown including humidity, visibility, precipitation and more. With four total themes, animations for each theme change based on sunrise, sunset, day/night cycles, precipitation and wind speed.
App Themes
Complete with the standard Zen Tree theme, iPhone and Android users experience a Bonsai tree that reacts to changes in weather and wind conditions. For $0.99, users can download three, additional themes including The Woobles, the Lost Robot and Personas.
The Woobles are a fun loving bunch ready to unearth themselves during certain times of day and weather conditions. Tilt your phone away from you and watch as the Woobles continue looking straight at you.
The Lost Robot features a retired robot, left to rust in the forest. Depending upon the time of day and weather conditions, he illuminates the forest floor with vibrant colors.
Ten unique, animated personas round out the last of the three themes. The Personas theme includes fun personalities who showcase their unique attributes during certain weather conditions. For instance, when it’s icy, you’ll get a rather confident woman clad with pearls.
Microsite
In an effort to market Weatherwise, we designed and developed a microsite, which would launch in tandem with the app. Symmetry between the app’s artwork and the microsite was imperative. The lead designer on the app, RJay Haluko, designed the microsite as a complement to the color themes, icons, and typography that users see on Weatherwise. Themes can be viewed in full, showcasing the hand-drawn artwork that makes Weatherwise a true pinnacle of web design. Visit the microsite at www.weatherwiseapp.com.
How did it go?
A recipient of five awards from The Art Directors Club of New Jersey, Weatherwise has been met with great praise taking home two gold, two silver and one bronze award from the “most creative show in New Jersey.” After debuting for two months, Weatherwise is listed number 20 in the top 25 free weather apps on iTunes.
